Clear skin is a privilege given to those who were blessed with it genetically or those who work hard to achieve it. I, unfortunately, fall into the latter category and it’s a battle I have fought since the 5th grade! This week I took you behind the scenes of my skincare routine with Angel Aesthetics. I LOVE Angel because she’s a single mom who makes you look your best, even on a budget. But if you aren’t able to budget a trip to an aesthetician, and I’ve been there too, here are my top low to no cost tips to win the #NoMakeUp war!
10. Wash your face when you wake up and before you go to sleep.
I know this seems so obvious but I can’t believe how many people do NOT do this. My pimples would be immediate if I didn’t so that’s what motivates me, act like you’re in that same boat too 😉
9. Wash your hair and wrap it up at night.
For those of us with oily hair, a bit culprit of your breakouts may be the oil from your hair that gets on your pillow and embeds itself into your face. Be proactive about keeping your hair out of your face morning, noon and night.
8. Stop touching your face.
We touch our faces A LOT and don’t even realize we’re doing it! My rule is ‘if you wouldn’t intentionally put your hands in your mouth, don’t put them on your face!’
7. Coconut Oil is our beauty friend!
In my house Coconut oil its great for cooking and beauty! I also use Coconut Oil to restore the moisture in my hair and for facial fixes when my skin severely dries out, which can happen in dry climates! Just remember ‘a lil dab will do ya!’
6. Troubleshoot your products.
When I got a grasp on my skin issues in College I became diligent about figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t. Try products that cater to your needs one at a time to figure it out. My go to was always Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser. Discover yours today!
Have you ever heard the expression ‘garbage in, garbage out?’ I know it’s not what you want to hear, but what you’re consuming is not just affecting your waistline, it has a punishing affect on your complexion as well. Drink lots of water and clean up your diet, while you’re at it get some cardio in too for that flawless natural glow!
4. Don’t just go poppin!
As a “Melanin Mama” I know how fast skin can hyper pigment. I often am shy to pimple pop because the scaring will last far longer than the blemish if I do. If you have to pop make sure you’re doing it in the right stages under the right conditions!
3. Follow your skin’s lead.
By now you know if your skin is oily, dry or combination. So why aren’t you treating each zone according to it’s needs? I’m a combo skin girl and if I treat one zone as if it’s like the others that’s when problems arise. Yes, it takes more time but your skin is worth it! Give each pore what it needs!
2. Worrying causes pimples.
I’m so serious, have you ever spoken a pimple into existence? I HAVE! You want everything to go a certain way for a big day and you overanalyze your face and pray that you don’t get a pimple. If that pimple pops up I’m blaming YOU for introducing the negative energy. Get out of the mirror and just stay proactive!
1. It’s all in your control!
Often we get frustrated when things don’t go our way because in our heart of hearts we know that had we done just a few things differently the outcome would have changed. I feel like skincare is totally in that category. It’s a daily job and if we slack we suffer the consequences knowing we could have saved ourselves. So save yourself and get serious, on the daily, about your skin care!
